Executive Director Vanita Gupta was a guest on the October 22 edition of MS NOW’s
All In with Chris Hayes, where she addressed the current Justice Department’s troubling pattern of investigating political opponents as the midterm elections near. “Since Watergate,” Gupta said, “across Republican and Democratic administrations, the Department of Justice has had a longstanding and very firm policy that the department’s prosecutors and federal law enforcement shouldn’t take any overt criminal investigative steps 30 days before an election, the reason being to avoid the appearance of political motivation behind a criminal investigation or to avoid any possible influence on the outcome of an election.”
